Gardening with Care

Ecology-first, Thoughtful Gardening
Climate & Community Workshops

About Kitt

I am a practising, freelance gardener based in London.

My garden maintenance work is ecology and empathy-first, tending to plants and gardens with the ecological impact of my physical interventions in mind. I do not use chemicals and I see the wider picture when it comes to garden life and insects, preferring to create habitat and support the wider food chain.

Before working in Horticulture I worked in Medical Science, working with doctors and patients, before making the move to a profession more suited to my preferred way of living. I believe for us to have a sustainable future and be healthy as a society and as individuals, we must be aware of our ecological impact, educate ourselves and others, and do what we can to mitigate our damage to the environment.

I am a qualified gardener with nature at my heart, balancing clarity and beauty with maintenance, taking care not to damage existing ecosystems - and ultimately, trying to restore them.

It has been amazing having Kitty at our special young people’s charity. Kitty is an incredible gardener who cares deeply about nature and ecology. Through thoughtful planning, expert knowledge and a genuine awareness of the environment, she has enhanced our beautiful, mindful space.

Kitty has also worked brilliantly alongside our corporate volunteers, helping them build new team skills while experiencing the wellbeing benefits of nature and being outdoors.

We offer huge thanks and appreciation for her work. Highly recommend.

Kitty Clarke has become a really dedicated and interesting gardener. You can tell it's in her bones; she is so thorough and meticulous, added to the fact that she is a pure creative, always thinking.

Benny Hawksbee, Gardener & Mentor

I can honestly say that we couldn’t have won the funding we have secured for our greening project without Kitty’s input, and as Project Manager, she’s helping us make it a reality.

Louise Rice, Chair of Grosvenor & Regency Resident Association, Westminster

There was very good feedback from students about the lecture, with many saying they found it really useful to engage with the topic.

It seems that they felt a very good connection.

Your Questions, Answered

How do we begin the process of working together?

Send me an email to the address you’ll find below, and I’ll get back to you as quickly as possible.

I will arrange a call or visit with you to discuss your needs and whether my approach would be compatible.

What kind of garden maintenance do you do?

I work for individual gardening clients around London. This includes anything from helping with wildlife-supporting plant choices and habitat creation, to bulb planting and rose pruning. If I work with you, I can also offer an informal list of invertebrate species that I find in your garden as I work.

I am very particular, with a good eye for what the space needs, and everything I do has thought behind it. I work in several designer-created gardens, and have experience maintaining Chelsea flower show gardens.

I prefer to reuse or keep garden ‘waste’ on-site to keep the nutrients and minerals your plants have worked so hard to extract from your garden, in your garden. I mostly use hand tools, and I won’t use chemicals. Everything I do has intention, and I recommend each visit being minimum half a day to get the best service.

Why workshops?

During the Covid pandemic I started working with Trust The People, a grass-roots organisation that provides free training in community building. I also got involved in climate activism and education, and completed a certification in Therapeutic practise.

I believe community, sustainability and mental health are all connected. When Goldsmiths, University of London, asked me to lecture on climate anxiety for their next cohort of Therapists, I started formally putting into practise what I had learned.

You can use the same contact email for both garden maintenance workshop enquiries.
